The Hard Part About Living Quietly

Oct 16
2 min read

Here's where I struggle.  We don't have to be liked by everyone.

We don't have to understand why they are mean. Why they shut us out. Why they choose to ignore us or speak poorly about us.

We do, however, need to surround ourselves with people who love us for who we are, who cherish our existence, and who encourage us to grow closer to Jesus. Sometimes I can't find that quiet because I'm too busy being angry at them for their actions. And where does that get me?

Nowhere. So instead, I sit with it.

I pray about it.

I give it to God.

I let it be.

And then I try to let it go.

Notice I said try. Because sometimes I find myself picking that hurt right back up again.

Find what matters most to you.

Spend time with the people who love you. Do the things that bring you joy. Make your dreams a reality. Be kind, even when kindness isn't returned. Teach it. Demonstrate it. Pray about it. And when you feel the urge to defend yourself, explain yourself, or make someone understand your side of the story, ask yourself:

Will this bring me closer to the peace God wants for me?

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is say nothing and trust that God sees what we cannot change.

Prayer for Today

I pray that your life becomes quiet enough to hear His voice. That you find peace in the middle of the noise, and that you learn to walk with Him even during your darkest hours. Remember, the sun will rise - A new day will be given. And with it, another opportunity to live a quiet life.

Choose joy. Choose peace. Choose Him.

The Joy Movement 365

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Share Your Joy Today.

Today's Reflection

What are you holding on to that is keeping you from living a quiet life? Are you pending more time thinking about what others have done than listening to what God is asking you to do?

About Me

IMG_3129_edited.png

Hi, I’m Wendy—a wife, mother, writer, and strong believer in Jesus. I began writing devotionals for my three sons as a way to share God’s Word and encourage them in their faith. Writing is a vulnerable craft, and I share my thoughts knowing that I do not have all the answers—nor do I pretend to know everything about the Bible. I am simply sharing what God places on my heart. My hope is that these words bring you joy, encourage you in your own journey, and plant a seed in your heart that reminds you just how deeply your Father in Heaven loves you.
