November: A Season of Gratitude
November 2, 2026 | Let His Words Shape Yours

Welcome to November!
We are entering a season filled with words like thankfulness, family, gratitude, and joy. Yet, for many of us, this season can also bring fear, anxiety, uncertainty, and the overwhelming desire to control every moving piece of our lives.
As the weather grows colder, the leaves turn beautiful shades of rusty red and gold, and our days offer fewer hours of sunlight, I invite you to embrace this changing season as an opportunity to grow closer to God.
Open your Bible. Read His words in red. Let His Word bring color to your life and light to your path.
God's Word is living and active. It doesn't change with the seasons, our circumstances, or our emotions. It remains constant, just as He does. As a disciple of Christ, I have come to believe that God's wisdom is what sustains me through fear and anxiety. His Word reminds me of His grace, His love, and the many reasons I have to be grateful.
And did I mention how much JOY He brings me?
Joy isn't necessarily found when everything in life is going according to plan. Sometimes, it is found when we finally surrender the plan to God. During this season of thankfulness, I encourage you to consider something:
Are you allowing God to guide your life, or are you spending your days trying to control everything and everyone around you?
I know I struggle with this. Perhaps you do, too.
We want to fix things, protect the people we love, anticipate problems, and manage outcomes. But God doesn't ask us to control every detail. He asks us to trust Him. Let go of the fear. Open His Word. Allow yourself to be shaped by Him and encouraged by the disciples He has placed in your life.
Let His Words Shape Your Words
This November, I invite you to make a commitment.
Read His Word. Let it shape your heart. Then let your heart shape the words you speak to others.
Think about how much our words matter. They can encourage or discourage. They can build relationships or create distance. They can offer grace or judgment.
What if we spent this month being more intentional about the words we share?
What if gratitude became more than something we expressed around the Thanksgiving table?
What if it became something we practiced every single day?
Let's allow God's Word to shape not only how we think, but also how we love, serve, forgive, and encourage others.
Scripture to Carry Into November
"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)
Notice that Scripture encourages us to give thanks in all circumstances, not necessarily for every circumstance.
Even during difficult seasons, we can remain grateful for God's presence, His promises, and His unchanging love.
Four Books of the Bible for November
If you are looking for a place to begin, I encourage you to explore one or more of these books:
The Gospel of Luke: Discover the life and teachings of Jesus, with beautiful reminders of praise, thanksgiving, compassion, and the joy surrounding His birth. A wonderful way to begin preparing your heart for Christmas.
Psalms: Turn to these prayers and songs when you need comfort, encouragement, gratitude, or simply a reminder of God's faithfulness.
Colossians: Just four chapters reminding us to remain rooted in Christ, live with thankful hearts, and allow His Word to guide our relationships and actions.
Philippians: Four chapters filled with encouragement about joy, contentment, prayer, and finding peace even when our circumstances are challenging.
You can also explore Bible-reading apps such as She Reads Truth, He Reads Truth, and YouVersion's Bible App. These resources make it easier to spend a few intentional moments in Scripture each day.
Your ChooseJoyDaily November Challenge
Each day this month, I encourage you to do three simple things:
Read His Word. Even five minutes spent in Scripture can offer perspective for the day ahead.
Practice gratitude. Write down one thing you are thankful for, especially on the days when gratitude feels difficult.
Give joy away. Encourage someone, offer forgiveness, share a kind word, or remind another person that they are loved.
And when the worries of life begin to overwhelm you, remember that you do not have to carry everything alone. Give God what you cannot control. Give yourself the opportunity to grow in His Word.
And give others the joy that comes from a heart rooted in Him.
A Prayer for November
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the changing seasons and the reminder that while everything around us may change, You remain constant. Help us surrender the things we cannot control. Replace our fears with faith, our anxiety with trust, and our worries with gratitude. Teach us to spend more time in Your Word and allow Your wisdom to guide our thoughts, conversations, and actions. May our words encourage others, our hearts remain open to Your grace, and our lives reflect the joy we find in You. As we enter this season of thanksgiving, remind us that gratitude is not simply a feeling or a holiday tradition. It is a way of living.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
Choose Joy. Choose Gratitude. Choose to Trust Him.
Wishing you a November filled with gratitude, grace, and the kind of joy that only He can provide.
