Never Alone in the Pew
The Bridge of the Cross: Day 3 of 5
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” — Galatians 2:20 NIV

As I sat alone in the pew looking toward the cross, one pivotal thought came to me:
I may experience suffering, but I will never suffer alone.
I was physically alone in that church, but I was not truly alone. I belonged to Jesus, and He was with me.
Following Christ does not mean we will never experience hardship, anger, anxiety, grief, or pain. Faith does not make us immune to suffering. We are human, and there will be moments when life feels too heavy.
But the cross reminds us that Jesus understands our suffering.
He does not stand at a distance from our pain. He meets us within it.
I wish I could say that I always remember this truth when life becomes difficult. I do not. Sometimes my anxiety speaks louder than my faith. Sometimes I become impatient, frightened, or determined to fix everything by myself. But my imperfect response does not change God’s perfect presence.
Galatians 2:20 reminds me that Christ lives within me. That means I am not abandoned when life becomes painful. I do not have to wait until I feel peaceful, faithful, or strong before asking Him for help.
Jesus meets me as I am—in the quiet pew, the anxious moment, the sleepless night, the unanswered question, and the season I do not understand. Being with Jesus does not always mean being removed from the pain. Sometimes it means discovering that He has been sitting beside us all along.
Questions to Ponder
When have you felt alone during a painful season?
How did Jesus make His presence known to you?
Where do you need to remember that God is with you today?
Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, when I feel alone, remind me that Christ lives within me. Help me recognize Your presence even when my circumstances remain difficult. Sit with me in my grief, fear, anger, and uncertainty. Give me peace in knowing that I never have to suffer alone. Amen.
