Humble Enough to Seek Him
Humility is a noun, while humble is an adjective. You probably already knew that, but hearing the difference may help explain how I view the two within my Christian life.

I want to be a humble Christian who demonstrates humility each day.
I have a wonderful book called My Personal Promise Bible. It is filled with Scripture connected to words such as caring, faith, peace, thanksgiving, humility, and many others. Often, a word will speak to my heart, and I will turn to its page to read the verses associated with it.
The book also includes a section titled “A Woman Relies on God Regarding…” It covers topics such as gossip, failure, anger, self-worth, and worry. Trust me—that section has my fingerprints all over it!
As a mother, wife, entrepreneur, and woman, I frequently seek God’s wisdom in areas involving loss, sadness, fatigue, fear, and uncertainty. This little tableside book also includes stories about significant women in the Bible and prayers spoken by women such as Mary, Miriam, Deborah, and Elizabeth.
I am not sharing this because I think you need to run out and find the same book for your bedside table. I am sharing it because humility is one of the words to which my heart repeatedly returns.
I want my life to reflect the humility of Christ.
However, genuine humility can be difficult to recognize. Humility does not mean speaking poorly about ourselves, hiding our gifts, or pretending we have nothing valuable to contribute. It means recognizing that our gifts come from God and are meant to be used for His purposes.
Even false humility can become another form of pride if we are secretly hoping someone will correct us, praise us, or tell us how wonderful we really are.
I believe each of us can become prideful at times. We may rely on our own understanding, attempt to control every outcome, or quietly believe that we know what is best. Pride tells us that we can handle life alone.
Humility reminds us that we need God.
Today, I invite you to meditate on this verse:
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” — 2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV
This promise was originally spoken to God’s people during a particular moment in their history, but it still reveals the posture God desires from His children:
Humble ourselves.
Pray.
Seek His face.
Turn toward Him.
Humility begins when we acknowledge that we do not have every answer. It grows when we stop trying to manage everything through our own strength and begin seeking God’s wisdom. To humble ourselves before God is not to become small or insignificant. It is to place ourselves in the proper relationship with Him. He sees what we cannot see, understands what we cannot understand, and knows what we need before we find the words to ask.
Prayer is an act of humility because it admits, “Lord, I need You.”
Seeking His face means wanting more than an answer to a problem. It means wanting a deeper relationship with the One who holds the answer. We will not practice humility perfectly. Pride may still slip into our conversations, decisions, and relationships. But when it does, we can return to God and ask Him to soften our hearts.
So today, I invite you to choose one word that speaks to your heart. Find a verse connected to that word. Sit quietly with it, pray over it, and ask God what He wants you to learn.
Perhaps your word is peace.
Perhaps it is forgiveness, courage, trust, or hope.
Or perhaps, like mine, your word today is humility.
Questions to Ponder
What word is God placing on your heart today?
What would it look like to humble yourself, pray, and seek His face?
Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, teach me what it means to walk humbly with You. Forgive me for the times when pride convinces me that I can manage everything through my own strength.
Help me recognize that every gift, ability, and opportunity comes from You. Show me how to use those gifts without needing attention or praise. Give me a heart that seeks Your face, listens for Your wisdom, and willingly turns away from anything that separates me from You.
And remind me that when I experience loss, sadness, fatigue, fear, or uncertainty, remind me that asking for Your help is not weakness. It is humility.
Lord, I need You. Soften my heart, guide my choices, and help my life reflect the humility of Christ.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
