Home: Established Through Understanding

“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established.” — Proverbs 24:3 NIV

My husband once gave me a beautiful handwritten card with horses on the front. Inside, he wrote, “Home is where the heart is.” It was our first time moving together and the beginning of learning what makes a house feel like home. Since then, we have moved five times. Each move brought new walls, new rooms, new friendships, and new memories. And the best part, I learned that the heart of our home traveled with us.

Proverbs tells us that wisdom builds a house and understanding establishes it. Perhaps understanding means recognizing that a home is not established by an address. It is established through love, patience, forgiveness, faith, and the decision to keep choosing one another. A house gives us shelter, but the people inside it give it life. God establishes our homes as we invite Him into our conversations, decisions, disagreements, celebrations, and ordinary days.

Home is where the heart is, and I am learning that the strongest home is one in which the heart belongs to God.

Question to Ponder

What establishes your home and makes it feel safe, loving, and rooted?

Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, establish my home through understanding. Help us listen well, forgive freely, love deeply, and welcome You into every room. Amen.

About Me

IMG_3129_edited.png

Hi, I’m Wendy—a wife, mother, writer, and strong believer in Jesus. I began writing devotionals for my three sons as a way to share God’s Word and encourage them in their faith. Writing is a vulnerable craft, and I share my thoughts knowing that I do not have all the answers—nor do I pretend to know everything about the Bible. I am simply sharing what God places on my heart. My hope is that these words bring you joy, encourage you in your own journey, and plant a seed in your heart that reminds you just how deeply your Father in Heaven loves you.
