He Is Knocking

“Here I am! I stand at the door and kock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, i will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” — Revelation 3:20 (NIV)

J.O.Y.—Jesus Over You—begins with letting Jesus in.

I once heard someone say that the Lord comes by invitation, while the enemy looks for any open door. That thought has stayed with me. I don't think He forces His way into our lives. Instead, He stands at the door and knocks. He calls to us, waits for us, and invites us into a relationship with Him.

But we have to open the door.

I grew up in a home where I was exposed to both Christianity and Judaism. Our family celebrated Christmas, Easter, Passover, Hanukkah, and other meaningful traditions. I feel fortunate to have experienced such a diverse religious upbringing, but as a child, I also felt confused. I knew about different traditions, but I did not yet understand what I believed or which path I should follow.

While many of my friends attended youth groups, church camps, and other activities that helped them explore their faith, my grandmother was the person who showed me what a relationship with God could look like. She read her Bible, prayed daily, and faithfully attended church. She did not simply talk about her faith, she lived it.

Through her, God began planting seeds in my heart long before I understood what He was doing.

It was not until I was in my twenties that I truly heard Him knocking. I was young, lonely, and deeply missing my grandmother, who had gone to be with the Lord. One Sunday, I sat in her Baptist church and felt something stirring inside me during the altar call. I can still remember walking down the red-carpeted aisle toward the minister. My heart was filled with nervousness, excitement, and a sense of peace I could not fully explain. I was ready to make a spiritual commitment to Jesus Christ.

At the time, I did not understand everything that decision would mean. I did not have all the answers, and I certainly did not know where my faith journey would take me. I simply knew that I had heard His knock, and I was ready to open the door.

That short walk down the church aisle became the beginning of my journey toward J.O.Y.

No one else can decide when you are ready to open the door. Faith cannot be forced, rushed, or chosen for you. But I can tell you this: Jesus is knocking. He wants you to know Him, trust Him, and experience the love He has for you.

Opening the door does not mean that every problem disappears. It means that you no longer face those problems alone. As you spend time in Scripture, pray, and invite Jesus into the ordinary moments of your day, your heart begins to change. His truth becomes louder than the enemy’s lies. Your faith grows, your perspective shifts, and you begin to recognize His presence in places you may have overlooked before.

Maybe today you hear only the faintest knock. Maybe you are curious but uncertain. Maybe you opened the door years ago but have slowly closed off certain rooms of your heart.

Wherever you are, Jesus is still there.

You do not need perfect words or a perfect understanding. You can begin with a simple prayer: “Jesus, I hear You. Please come in.”

Questions to Ponder

  • Where have you noticed Jesus knocking in your life?

  • Is there an area of your heart that you have been afraid to open to Him?

  • What might change if you invited Jesus into your conversations, decisions, worries, and plans today?

  • Who could share their faith journey with you as you take your next step?

Prayer for Today

Jesus, help me slow down long enough to hear You knocking. Give me the courage to open the door and invite You into every part of my life. Replace confusion with truth, fear with faith, and loneliness with the comfort of Your presence. Teach me to recognize Your voice and trust where You are leading me. Amen.

About Me

IMG_3129_edited.png

Hi, I’m Wendy—a wife, mother, writer, and strong believer in Jesus. I began writing devotionals for my three sons as a way to share God’s Word and encourage them in their faith. Writing is a vulnerable craft, and I share my thoughts knowing that I do not have all the answers—nor do I pretend to know everything about the Bible. I am simply sharing what God places on my heart. My hope is that these words bring you joy, encourage you in your own journey, and plant a seed in your heart that reminds you just how deeply your Father in Heaven loves you.
