Built by Wisdom
“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established.” — Proverbs 24:3 NIV

A house may be constructed with wood, brick, nails, and many skilled hands, but a home requires something more. Scripture tells us that a house is built through wisdom.
A few years ago, my husband and I were faced with a difficult opportunity. We had purchased a beautiful home next door to my parents and godparents and thought we would spend decades living there among family and friends. Living so close to family brought us tremendous joy, but much of our day was spent driving our three sons to and from school and their activities, which meant we spent hours behind the wheel.
Our oldest was approaching driving age, and the thought of him traveling 15 miles each way concerned us. Furthermore, our younger sons were building friendships and becoming involved in their school community.
We began to understand that if our family wanted to be fully invested in that community, we needed to live within it. I believe God was building an opportunity, but we still had to decide whether we would trust His wisdom enough to follow it. God’s wisdom does not always lead us toward the easiest choice. Sometimes it leads us toward change.
Question to Ponder
Where might God be asking you to seek His wisdom before making your next decision?
Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, help me seek Your wisdom instead of relying only on my own plans. Give me the courage to follow where You lead, even when change feels uncomfortable. Thank you for building the blueprints that lead me closer to you. Amen.
